Nirmala sitharaman vs p. chidambaram: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman retorted on Thursday (13 February) at the comment of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s ‘Right Se Get’ comment, saying that the people of India forced the Congress to ‘get out of the government’.
Sitharaman was responding to the discussion on the budget in the Rajya Sabha. During this, he targeted Chidambaram for his remarks, in which the former Finance Minister attacked the government in the Economic Survey citing the advice of the Chief Economic Advisor.
Chidambaram’s statement
In fact, Chidambaram had said that thankfully, the Chief Economic Advisor has said a clear and innocent thing in the preamble of the Economic Survey and wisely advised that ‘go away from the way’ and ‘Remove the regulation’. He had said that the Chief Economic Advisor has recommended removal of regulation at the ground level and structural reforms for reform, but the Finance Minister adopted the opposite way.
‘Gandhi also advised the Congress party to end’
Sitharaman retorted and said, ‘The people of India have removed him (Congress) government. The people of India have excluded him from governance. Taking a dig at Chidambaram and his party, he said that even in 1947 Mahatma Gandhi had advised the Congress party to end, despite that he still remains in the political field of India. Referring to the functioning, Sitharaman said that as far as the Modi government is concerned, the Prime Minister has repeatedly said that his government is against red tape and is in favor of laying a ‘red carpet’ for the industry. He said, ‘1,550 unnecessary laws have been abolished. 40,000 unnecessary compliance has been removed and they have increased the convenience.
‘Former Finance Minister suggests Congress governments’
Sitharaman said that the chief economic advisors are independent and suggests for the entire nation. He said, ‘I also want the state governments to follow this path to remove the old laws, go out. I want the former Finance Minister to suggest the Congress governments. Do not bother people. They want to become entrepreneurs. They want to grow. The Finance Minister said that it was the Modi government who brought the public trust law, Angel tax, so that the startups could work.
Sitharaman also rejected Chidambaram’s suggestions that the allocation of the Ministry of External Affairs has been cut in the budget. He also responded to the allegations of Samajwadi Party (SP) member Jaya Bachchan that the film industry has not been supported by the government. Sitharaman said that the government has taken major steps for the film industry, including the ‘World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit’ (Waves) 2025 hosting. He said, ‘India will host the first Waves event in Mumbai from 1 to 4 May 2025, which will bring media CEOs from all over the world, entertainment celebrities and creative people on one platform.’
